Significant risk of corrosion
Natural gas contains extremely high levels of hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) and carbon dioxide (CO₂), which accelerate localized corrosion in buried pipelines under wet gas gathering and transportation conditions, leading to potential hazards such as wall thinning and stress cracking.
Poor adaptability to extreme operating conditions
Long-distance pipelines are often exposed to high-pressure environments with significant temperature fluctuations, and LNG transmission systems must withstand extremely low temperatures of -162°C. Ordinary carbon steel is prone to brittle fracture, making leak detection and repairs extremely difficult.
